Boris I: Part 1 - The Baptizing

The film is about the Bulgarian ruler Boris the First. The events take place in the later ninth century. Boris comes to the throne young. He suffers heavy defeats in the wars he wages against his neighbours. He looks for another way to keep the country standing. The decision he takes is enormous and cannot be undone. Bulgaria will break with paganism and join Christianity. The baptism takes place in the year 864. The decision brings peace, and the price of it is high. There is resistance and blood is spilled. Boris works to make one people out of the many tribes in the country. The story runs as an account of building a state. This is the first part of a two part epic. The second part deals with the Slavonic alphabet. Stefan Danailov and Boris Lukanov appear in the hundred and thirty one minute film, a Bulgarian production Borislav Sharaliev finished in 1985.
