What Bottled Life: Nestle's Business with Water Is About
Is there a way to turn ordinary water into a billion-dollar business? The documentary puts that question through the largest player in bottled water, Nestlé. The Swiss journalist Res Gehringer travels to the United States, Nigeria and Pakistan to trace how the company acquires springs and how that water is then sold back to the people living around them. Urs Schnell's film is openly critical and makes no attempt to hide it. Nestlé declined to take part; the film works instead from the company's public positions and from earlier statements by its chairman. The argument at its core is whether water is a human right or a commodity that must be priced. The film takes a side, and it still puts the other position on screen.
