Breaking and Entering

A drama set in London. Will runs an architecture practice. He moves the office to King's Cross; the area is being redeveloped in those years and there are migrant districts around it. The office is burgled twice. Will starts keeping watch at night to catch the thieves and follows a boy. He tracks him home and meets his mother: Amira, a tailor who came from Bosnia. Will does not say who he is. He begins a relationship with her, and it rests on a lie. What the film is interested in is not crime but two worlds living on the same street. Will has his own trouble at home: his relationship with his partner Liv is over and there are difficulties with his stepdaughter. The narrative blames nobody and clears nobody. Jude Law plays Will, Juliette Binoche plays Amira and Robin Wright plays Liv. Vera Farmiga is in the cast. Anthony Minghella directed; it was his last film. A carefully made example for anyone who likes drama built on a city and stories of migration. For a viewer who wants a clear resolution, the film does not resolve the matter and leaves its ending open.
