Breaking Horizons

Lara is twenty-five and lives in Berlin. She lost interest in her architecture course long ago, spends her nights out with her friend Nora, and finishes nothing she starts. After a night with a barman she met at a party, she finds out she is pregnant. She is startled at first, then begins to see it as a chance. Pola Beck's German film shows the indecision of being young without passing judgement. Aylin Tezel plays Lara. The telling does not offer the pregnancy as a solution; the real question is whether Lara will finally take hold of her own life. Night scenes in Berlin set the tone. As the film goes on, the story moves somewhere far heavier than expected.
