Broken Mirrors

Diane and Dora work as sex workers. Both of them begin to rebel against the lot they have been given. That rebellion is the main line of the account. At the same time, in another part of the town, a murderer is at large. The two strands run side by side through the film. The account keeps the women’s daily life at the centre. The film runs drama, thriller and crime together. Feminism is one of the subjects it carries. A brothel is one of the settings of the account. Coby Stunnenberg is in the cast too. Lineke Rijxman and Henriëtte Tol take the leads, with Edda Barends also in the cast, in Marleen Gorris’s Dutch film of 1984.
