What Bucharest Identity Card Is About
A young woman from the provinces who has just qualified as an agricultural engineer does not want to go back to the countryside for her assigned service and looks for a way to stay in the capital. For that she needs a Bucharest identity card, and her solution is to buy a husband. The arranged marriage looks simple at first, then things neither of them accounted for come up and the work becomes keeping the lie going. The film shows the system of residence and permits in the Romania of the eighties through comedy rather than open criticism. Mircea Diaconu and Catrinel Dumitrescu appear in Virgil Calotescu’s eighty eight minute Romanian comedy, completed in 1982.
