What Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales Is About

Friz Freleng assembled this out of vintage Warner shorts stitched together with newly animated linking material. Bugs and Daffy are sent door to door selling books for the Rambling House publishing company, with a prize for whoever sells the most; Bugs draws Pismo Beach and ends up conscripted into telling bedtime stories to Prince Abba-Dabba, spoiled son of Sultan Yosemite Sam. Those stories are the doorway to the older cartoons, among them Bewitched Bunny, Ali Baba Bunny and One Froggy Evening. The title nods at the Arabian Nights, though Ali Baba Bunny is the only short in the package that actually belongs to that world. It ran seventy-seven minutes on release in November 1982. Who it is for: children meeting the classic shorts in bulk. Who it is not for: collectors expecting new animation, since almost everything here is archive.
