What Bunch of Kunst - A Film About Sleaford Mods Is About
The documentary follows the British punk duo Sleaford Mods over two years. The band is Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn. With them is their manager Steve Underwood, and the three run the thing on their own terms. The starting point is recordings made in a bedroom in Nottingham. From there they go to the back rooms of pubs in the north of England, then to the charts and the big festivals. Williamson had worked in a chicken factory before, and Underwood had driven buses. What kept the band going is the directness of the lyrics and the do it yourself way of working. Iggy Pop appears in the film. Christine Franz’s German documentary, a hundred and three minutes long, was completed in 2017.
