What Buster Keaton Rides Again Is About
In the autumn of 1964, a little over a year before his death, Buster Keaton went to Canada to make a short called The Railrodder. John Spotton's documentary stood beside that shoot and recorded almost everything: how Keaton worked, what he thought about comedy, the arguments he had with the director on set, his time off, his third marriage. What comes out is not a tribute. It is a record of an old man still working, still turning over where the joke is going to come from. Made by the National Film Board of Canada, it is now the closest document we have of Keaton's last years.
