Calamity

A railway employee is starting a new job. First he goes through training. Then he sets out on his first run as a driver. The film follows that process. Meanwhile the talk around him goes on. Love, sex and social standing are inside that talk. Other ideals are argued over too. The banter is the real material of the film. The work is put together as a comedy. The railway job gives the account its frame. The first run is where that frame arrives. Klára Emingerová and Jaroslava Kretschmerová are in the cast too. Bolek Polívka and Dagmar Bláhová take the leads, with Jana Synková and Marie Pavlíková also in the cast, in Věra Chytilová’s Czechoslovak film of 1982.
