Call Me Elisabeth

A ten year old girl lives in rural France after the war. Her parents are about to separate. Her older sister leaves home to finish school. The girl is left in the house with a housekeeper who barely speaks. She is afraid of the dark and of an abandoned château nearby. One day she finds a stranger in the barn. Instead of being frightened she chooses to hide him. The man has run from a clinic close by, where her father works as a doctor. A friendship forms between them and the girl is less alone. Alba Gaïa Bellugi and Stéphane Freiss take the leads in Jean-Pierre Améris’s French film of 2006.
