Romantics Anonymous

A woman who makes extraordinary chocolate but cannot face people takes a job at a small factory run by a man just as timid. Both attend a therapy group and hide it from each other. The film treats anxiety as a real obstacle without making it heavy; the narrative gets its comedy from two people having to prepare for the simplest contact, and it does not set out to cure anyone. It runs under ninety minutes and stays plain. Jean-Pierre Ameris directed, with Benoit Poelvoorde and Isabelle Carre in the leads. It is a French and Belgian production. Who it's for: those who like small, gentle French comedy. Who it's not for: viewers wanting anxiety disorder treated seriously; the film uses it entirely as comic material.
