Camp Takota

Elise's job and her relationship collapse in the same week. With nowhere to go, she returns to the summer camp of her childhood as a counsellor. There she runs into two old friends who never left. When the camp's future comes under threat, the three have to set aside the things they have not discussed in years. This is the first feature for Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart, who built large audiences through YouTube in the early 2010s. It came out as an independent production sold straight to viewers, and became an example of how an internet-built audience could be carried into film. The storytelling stays inside the camp-movie tradition: a nostalgic location, a scattered crew, a last-minute plan to save the place. Who it's for: Viewers who follow the three leads' online work, and anyone who likes light summer camp comedy. Who it's not for: The script is predictable and much of the humour rests on the performers' existing following. Without that, it is an ordinary comedy.
