Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

An Indian film that starts at a university and continues eight years later. Rahul and Anjali are closest friends at university. Anjali goes about in tracksuits, plays basketball and is nothing but a friend to Rahul. A girl named Tina arrives at the college and Rahul falls in love with her. Anjali leaves. Eight years pass. Rahul has a small daughter, also called Anjali. Her mother died in childbirth and left behind letters written to her. Reading them, the girl learns her father's story and decides to find the other Anjali. The second half takes place at a summer camp where everyone meets again. It was Karan Johar's first film as director and became one of the most watched Indian films of the 1990s; its songs became pieces known across a generation. Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul, Kajol plays Anjali and Rani Mukerji plays Tina. It is among the most remembered of the films Khan and Kajol made together. Seen from here some choices in the script are arguable: the woman has to change her appearance before she can be loved. A full classic for anyone who likes Indian cinema of the 1990s and long romantic narratives. For a viewer wanting something short, it runs close to three hours.
