What Cercando La grande bellezza Is About
Gianluca Jodice shot this documentary on the set of Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty and divided it into five chapters. He talks with Sorrentino, works through images and scenes one at a time, and tries to reconstruct how the director thinks and how he makes films. The premise is that everything Sorrentino keeps returning to, all of his deepest obsessions, sit together in this one picture. Toni Servillo and Carlo Verdone speak as well. At sixty-one minutes it is less a promotional piece than an orderly essay on one director’s working method.
