What Chakravyuh Is About

Adil, a senior police officer, plants his friend Kabir among the Naxalite guerrillas as an informer. The longer Kabir looks at it from the inside, the more he sees of how villagers are being separated from their land, and in time he changes sides and becomes one of the group’s leading figures. Prakash Jha built the film as a thriller about the Maoist insurgency across India’s central belt, and about the collision between mining companies and adivasi villages. When one of its songs named Tata and Birla, the Aditya Birla Group sent the producers a defamation notice. Critics liked it; the box office did not follow.
