What Raajneeti Is About
During a state election campaign a powerful political family splits from the inside, with inheritance, betrayal, murder and negotiation all moving across the same table. What neither summary says is the skeleton of the film: Prakash Jha built the story directly on the Mahabharata. The brothers, the exile, the concealed birth, the hero who is a driver's son all have their counterparts in the epic. It draws openly on American mafia films too. The character played by Katrina Kaif, a woman who enters politics from outside, was widely compared in India to a real figure.
