Chandni Bar

Mumtaz comes to Mumbai after losing her family in an outbreak of communal violence, and a relative puts her into a dance bar. She is young and she has no choice. Years pass; she marries, she has children, and she lives among the people around the bar, inside an order of money, fear and crime. She wants to keep her own children out of it. Madhur Bhandarkar's film shows the dance bars of Mumbai not as decoration but as a line of work. Tabu takes the lead and won best actress at the National Film Awards for it; the film took four awards that year. The telling does not make violence and abuse into material for a scene, it shows the consequences. Atul Kulkarni is also in the cast.
