India Lockdown

The Indian government announces a twenty one day lockdown across the country because of the pandemic. The film tells the story of four out of the hundreds of thousands whose lives came to a halt at once. The four lines run independently of one another and show that applying the lockdown to everyone in the same way did not mean the same thing for everyone. The account does not directly accuse the government and looks for no heroism; it follows what the decision came to on the ground. Transport stopping, migrant workers stranded on the roads and incomes cut off are the recurring subjects. The film holds its events inside the time of those days. Shweta Basu Prasad appears in Madhur Bhandarkar’s hundred and seventeen minute Indian film, completed in 2022.
