What Cherish Is About

Zoe does computer animation, talks to almost nobody, and lives in a world she has built out of eighties songs. One night, leaving a bar, someone gets into her car: a man who has been following her. He grabs the wheel and the car hits a policeman. The policeman dies, the man disappears, and Zoe is what is left. Nobody believes in the stalker. She is fitted with an ankle bracelet and confined to her flat. Daly, the officer who fits it, becomes the one person she talks to. Finn Taylor directs; ninety-nine minutes, with Robin Tunney as Zoe and Tim Blake Nelson as Daly. The film uses eighties pop not as background but as the inside of her head. It showed at Sundance in 2002.
