What China Gate Is About
Ten former soldiers, court-martialled for cowardice and thrown out of the army, come together to save a village in the Devdurg region from the dacoit Jageera. The person who calls them in is Sandhya, whose father Jageera killed. They arrive with all their weapons and have them confiscated, because Jageera has the local police in hand; they stay anyway and set about earning the villagers’ trust. What the villagers do not know is what these men’s records say. Written, produced and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film follows Seven Samurai by way of Sholay. It opened on 27 November 1998. Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Danny Denzongpa and Amrish Puri are in it.
