What Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala Is About
Vijayan teaches at the village school and believes his economics degree is enough to make him a businessman. He takes long leaves of absence and goes around chasing schemes, all of which collapse. The title, though, is not his name but his wife's: Shyamala, Lost in Thought. Sreenivasan wrote and directed it and plays Vijayan himself, but he turns the camera onto the woman actually holding the house together, and builds the comedy from there. Sangita plays Shyamala and won the Kerala state award for it. The film took the National Film Award for best film on other social issues and two Filmfare South awards. It is treated as one of the classic Malayalam family dramas.
