Chisholm '72: Unbought & Unbossed

The documentary takes up Shirley Chisholm. Chisholm was elected to Congress in 1968. She was the first Black woman to manage it. In 1972 she took a further step. That year she ran for president. No Black woman had run before her. The settled circles of politics did not back her. Those who supported her came from elsewhere. Black voters, feminists and young voters were among them. The campaign was hard and full of movement. Unbought and unbossed was the slogan she ran with, and the film takes its title from it. The film follows the campaign step by step. Chisholm appears in it in her own words. Shola Lynch’s American documentary of 2004 runs seventy five minutes.
