What Chris & Don: A Love Story Is About
The documentary tells the lifelong relationship between the writer Christopher Isherwood and the painter Don Bachardy, who was much younger than he was. The account brings together interviews made today, footage the couple shot themselves from the fifties onwards, passages from Isherwood’s diaries, and animated sequences set between them. The difference in age and the way the period looked at such things made the relationship hard from the start; the film does not hide that and shows how the two men carried it. The footage the couple shot themselves gives the account another layer: the record of the relationship was kept not by anyone else but by the two of them. The ninety minute documentary by Guido Santi and Tina Mascara was completed in 2008.
