Michael York

Michael York played Brian Roberts in Bob Fosse's Cabaret, with Liza Minnelli as Sally Bowles. In his autobiography York tells of the screenplay being rewritten by Hugh Wheeler once Jay Allen's work on it was finished, and of Wheeler being on location in Germany to see the revisions through. When it became unclear for a while whether he could join the project, the American actor John Rubinstein was tried out for Brian as well. A long musical passage shot over four days at a castle was cut from a first assembly that ran past three hours.
