Monk with a Camera

Nicholas Vreeland grew up among the privileged. His grandmother was Diana Vreeland, the Vogue editor. He came to photography early. For a while he worked under Irving Penn. Then he met one of the Dalai Lama’s teachers. The meeting changed his life. Not long after, he left the life he had. He settled in a monastery in India. He became a monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Years later he returned to photography. He did it for the monastery rather than for himself, selling his pictures to pay for its rebuilding. The documentary is about the passage between those two lives, and the Dalai Lama appears in it. Richard Gere also appears in the ninety minute documentary Tina Mascara and Guido Santi finished in 2014.
