Chronicle of an Escape

Chronicle of an Escape (Crónica de una fuga), directed by Adrián Caetano, is an Argentine film based on Claudio Tamburrini's autobiographical book, telling the story of four men abducted by a death squad during Argentina's 1976 to 1983 military dictatorship. Tamburrini, goalkeeper for a minor league football team, was abducted in 1977 on suspicion of being a dissident and taken to Mansión Seré, a real secret detention center; after four months of captivity, with execution seemingly imminent, he and three fellow prisoners escaped by leaping from a window during a storm. This is believed to be the only recorded escape from such a secret detention center. The film won Best Film from the Argentine Film Critics Association among other awards, and was Argentina's submission for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. Who it's for: anyone curious about an Argentine drama depicting the only recorded escape from a military dictatorship's secret detention center, based on the survivor's own book. Who it's not for: those looking for a light, low tension viewing experience, since the film includes real torture and the constant threat of execution.
