City Hunter

A French adaptation of the Japanese comic City Hunter. France knew the comic and the anime as Nicky Larson; the series drew a large audience on television in the 1980s and 1990s. This film speaks directly to that generation's memory. The story: there is a perfume in circulation, and anyone who smells it falls in love with whoever is wearing it. Nicky Larson and his partner Laura are assigned to protect it. The register sits between parody and respect. The character's known traits from the comic, his condition around women and his partner silencing him with a mallet, are staged scene by scene, and the comedy comes from there. Philippe Lacheau directed and played the lead; Élodie Fontan plays Laura. It sold over one million six hundred thousand tickets in France and was rated his best-liked work, while taking less at the box office than his other films. An enjoyable choice for anyone who likes comic adaptations and French comedy, especially those who watched the series as children. For a viewer who does not know it at all, most of the jokes do not land.
