Clan of the White Lotus

After the destruction of the Shaolin temple the emperor releases the detained disciples. But the White Lotus clan is not satisfied and decides to kill every surviving student. One fighter, Hung Wen-ting, escapes the attack. He hides and looks for a way to defeat Pai Mei, who leads the clan. The problem is that there is no point on Pai Mei's body that can be struck; the vital area keeps moving. The solution comes not from fighting but from movements considered women's work. Directed by Lo Lieh, who also plays Pai Mei, the film continues around the same story as Executioners from Shaolin. The narrative sets up a technical puzzle: finding the opponent's weak point. Gordon Liu plays Hung Wen-ting and Kara Hui plays the woman who helps him. Kara Hui's character supplies the film's solution. Who it's for: Viewers who like Shaw Brothers films, martial arts choreography, and 1980s Hong Kong cinema. Who it's not for: The narrative is thin and there is no depth of character. The training scenes are also long and repetitive.
