Codine

The account is set in a poor quarter of Bucharest at the turn of the century. Codin has just come out of prison. He served ten years. The charge was killing a friend. He goes back to his mother. She hoards her money and will not spend any of it. That drives her son to fury. A boy in the neighbourhood looks up to Codin. He sees what happens through him. Poverty and injustice are laid out in front of the child. Things get worse when Codin kills a man who broke his trust. His mother grows more suspicious, convinced he will take her money, and turns against him, while the boy watches it all. The account comes from a novel, and Alexandru Virgil Platon and Françoise Brion appear in the ninety eight minute film, a French and Romanian production Henri Colpi finished in 1963.
