A couple's relationship across six years is told out of order. Which moment we are in is signalled only by details. The film does not use the structure as a puzzle; the narrative sets different moments of the same relationship side by side to show how what people say to each other changes. The colours and the sky are kept deliberately unreal. Sam Esmail wrote and directed his first film, with Justin Long and Emmy Rossum. Who it's for: those who like relationship films carried by talk. Who it's not for: viewers irritated by characters who never stop being clever; the dialogue is artificial on purpose.
