Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

An Indian film told in two periods. Bunny wants to travel. He is studying journalism and his only aim is to see the world; attaching himself to nowhere is a principle for him. Naina is studying medicine. She works, does not go out and finds her own life dull. One summer Naina joins her friends on a trek to Manali. Bunny is one of the names in the same group and they meet there. Through the trip she steps outside her habits. At the end Bunny takes a job abroad and leaves. The second half takes place eight years later. Someone from the group is marrying and everyone gathers for the wedding. Bunny is now a cameraman travelling the world and Naina is a doctor. What the film asks is whether constant movement is freedom or flight, and what the person who stays loses. The songs are set inside the narrative and the wedding section is its showiest part. Ranbir Kapoor plays Bunny and Deepika Padukone plays Naina. Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin are in the cast. Ayan Mukerji directed. It was a large box office success in India and its songs were played for a long time. Exactly right for anyone who likes Indian romance and stories about the young. For a viewer wanting something short, it runs over two and a half hours.
