Confession

Yoon Jong-seok's 2022 South Korean film is a remake of a Spanish thriller. Min-ho, who owns a technology company, is found in the hotel room where his lover has been killed; the room was locked from inside and no one else was there, so he is the suspect. He says he is innocent and hires the experienced lawyer Shin-ae, who works with him over a single night to get the truth out. Almost the whole film takes place in that meeting; each new detail invalidates the previous account and the affair is tied to a traffic accident. The Korean version keeps the structure of the original while moving the family relationships and the question of guilt into its own context. Images of a mountain house under snow give it an atmosphere of its own. Who it's for: viewers who like single-location thrillers and plots built on surprise. Who it's not for: anyone who has seen the original; the plot is the same.
