Kristin Zachariassen What Cool Kids Don't Cry Is About
Anja is a fast, stubborn kid who plays football and is busy planning summer camp, a tournament to train for and the usual trouble with her friends. Then, in hospital, she is diagnosed with leukaemia. The film gives the illness on the child’s own scale: hair falling out, how the class behaves, the time that passes in a hospital room, and still wanting to be on the pitch. Her effort to stop anyone pitying her sits at the centre of the account. The production is a remake of a Dutch film from 2012, both of them taken from a novel by Jacques Vriens. Mia Helene Solberg Brekke plays the lead in Katarina Launing’s Norwegian film, completed in 2014.
