Coolie No. 1

Raju works as a porter at the station and earns barely enough to live on. Then a matchmaker, out to get even with a man who humiliated him over marrying his daughter to someone rich, uses Raju: he presents him as a prince. Raju enters the girl's house as a wealthy businessman and marries her. But holding the lie up requires a new lie every day; he ends up inventing a twin brother for himself and playing two people at once. David Dhawan directs the Indian comedy; two hours and twenty-three minutes, with Govinda as Raju and Karisma Kapoor as the girl. It was among the most widely seen Indian comedies of the nineties; Govinda and Dhawan made film after film in this vein. The same story was filmed again in 2020.
