Mujhse Shaadi Karogi

Sameer cannot control his temper. He is dismissed from every job over a fight and finally moves to Goa to start again. He sees Rani, who lives next door, and falls in love. Her father is a former soldier and looks for calmness in a prospective son-in-law. Sameer knows this and tries to hold himself in check. At the same time a man named Sunder is sharing his house; he presents himself as a good friend but arranges for every outburst to happen in front of the father. Sunder wants Rani too. David Dhawan directs. Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra are in the cast. The film was among the highest earning productions of its year in India. The form is farce; the misunderstandings pile up and physical comedy comes forward. The opposition it builds is between anger and false politeness; the character played by Akshay Kumar is the real engine of the narrative. David Dhawan is among the most prolific directors of this genre in Indian cinema and his films follow a set shape. The woman is largely the object of a contest between two men and the narrative keeps no distance from that. Its limits are length and repetition; the jokes become the same in the second half. Who it is for: viewers who like mainstream Indian comedy and star casts. Who it is not for: the humour is coarse, the woman's part functional, and the plot weak.
