What Cross My Heart Is About
Manon, twelve, from a poor Montreal family, promises her younger brother Mimi that they will not be separated, and it is becoming clear that both of them are headed for foster care. In the middle of the October Crisis of 1970, taking their idea from a country shaken by the FLQ’s kidnappings, they stage a rebellion of their own: with two cousins helping, they take an elderly woman away and hide her in the country, trying to turn her into a grandmother. Luc Picard directed from a script Nicole Bélanger adapted from her own novel. It was selected for the Berlin film festival in 2018.
