Csontvary

The film is about a painter. His name was Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka. He worked first as a pharmacist. Then he left the trade and his home behind. He gave himself to painting. What he was after was one great subject. He travelled to the Middle East to find it. His contemporaries did not take him seriously. His sanity was doubted. He came to be regarded as an important painter all the same. A second line runs through the film, following an actor known only as Z. Z is to play Csontváry on stage and struggles to understand him, in a screenplay by István Császár and Péter Dobai. Itzhak Finzi appears in the hundred and twelve minute film, a Hungarian production Zoltán Huszárik finished in 1980.
