Pollock

An unrecognised painter in New York marries an artist who supports him and, years later, starts working by dripping paint onto canvas laid on the floor. By the time fame arrives he has stopped drinking, and it does not last. The film does not explain creativity; the narrative shows even the discovery of the technique as something like an accident and gives its weight to the erosion inside the marriage. The painting scenes are held long and unbroken. Ed Harris directed and starred, making the paintings himself. Marcia Gay Harden is in support and won an Oscar for the role. A real warning: there is severe alcohol dependence, domestic violence, and an accident ending in death. This is not a film that glorifies an artist's life.
