Dam Street

Yun becomes pregnant while she is still at school and is expelled. The year is 1983 and they live in a small town on a river. The people around her turn their backs. Her mother has the child adopted in secret and tells Yun the baby died at birth. Ten years later Yun works in a song and dance troupe and cannot shake off the shadow of her past. In that time her path crosses with a boy. Her mother realises that the boy is Yun’s son. The film tells how shaming locks up a woman’s life. The question of who is made to carry the fault is the real subject. Li Yu’s ninety three minute Chinese film was completed in 2005.
