Darwin

The documentary is about a small town called Darwin. It sits in the Mojave Desert in California. It stands on the edge of Death Valley under a punishing heat. Thirty five people live there. There is no government and no church. There is no work and there are no children. Most of the people who came have been running from their pasts. Crime, violence and addiction are what they wanted to leave behind. Now they have to live together in the same place. The survival of the town depends on a waterline. The water comes down from the mountains by gravity alone. That line is fragile and could be cut at any time. Beyond those mountains, weapons are being tested. The camera listens to the residents in their own homes. Each of them tells how they ended up here. The eighty six minute documentary watches a town that has almost emptied out. It is a Swiss production Nick Brandestini finished in 2011.
