Day of the Fight

Jack Huston's 2024 American film follows a single day of a former boxer preparing for his first fight since leaving prison. Mikey wakes in the morning and, until the bout that evening, visits one by one the people he broke in his past. The structure is simple and effective: each encounter settles another score, and the fight itself is not the focus. The black and white photography is an open reference to the tradition of boxing films. Michael Pitt's performance carries it; Joe Pesci and Ron Perlman appear in short but telling roles. Its weakness is the emotional steering rising in the final section and some encounters resolving too neatly. Who it's for: viewers who like boxing films and character-driven drama. Who it's not for: anyone wanting sports action, or avoiding themes of addiction and guilt.
