What The Champ Is About
Billy was a champion once and is now a man drifting between drink and the racetrack, with one solid thing in his life: his small son T.J., who worships him. When Annie, the wife who left years ago, comes back wanting the boy, Billy has one card left to play, which is to get back in the ring. In this remake of the 1931 film Franco Zeffirelli uses sentiment without measuring any of it, and turns the ending into a scene people argued about for years. Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway star, with Rick Schroder as the boy.
