What Death of a Man in the Balkans Is About
In a flat in Belgrade a composer living alone takes his own life. A camera has been left running in the room and it goes on recording. The neighbours, the officials who arrive and everyone else are unaware of it. The recording shows exactly how people behave in the face of a death. The film builds this not as an account of mourning but as a black comedy. What people say in the moment they believe nobody is watching is the real material. That the camera is left inside the event as though forgotten is the film’s defining choice. Emir Hadžihafizbegović and Nataša Ninković appear in Miroslav Momčilović’s eighty minute Serbian film, completed in 2012.
