What Decalogue VIII Is About
Not a standalone film: this is the eighth part of Kieślowski's ten-part television series Dekalog, fifty-five minutes long. Zofia teaches ethics. A visitor from America, Elżbieta, sits in on her class; she is researching what happened to Jews who survived the war. The moral dilemma discussed in the seminar turns out to be a real case, and the decision Zofia took in it shaped Elżbieta's life. The two women talk it through over one night. Kieślowski clears nobody and condemns nobody; he looks at how choices made under fear stand up years later.
