Derek and Clive Get the Horn

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore worked together for many years. They created two characters called Derek and Clive. The pair are foul mouthed lavatory attendants. They made three records with those characters. The film records the making of the last of them. The recording is largely improvised. The air in the studio, though, is tense. The two of them had not spoken for a while. Moore had become a major star by those years. Cook had been left behind. That difference sits there in the room. The jokes take on a poisonous edge as they go. Cook needles his partner at every chance. Under the laughter there is plain resentment. This became the last work in which the two appeared together. Peter Cook and Dudley Moore speak in the eighty nine minute documentary. It is a British production Russell Mulcahy finished in 1979.
