Dirty God

Jade is a young mother in London. An acid attack leaves her face and part of her body badly burned. By the time the operations are finished her face has been rebuilt, but it is a different face. Her small daughter is frightened of her, her old friends do not know how to behave, and the reflection in the mirror is not hers. Jade comes apart first: talking to strangers online, going to Morocco for cheap cosmetic surgery, hurting herself. Then she starts looking for another way to take her life back. Sacha Polak directs, with Vicky Knight as Jade; Knight was herself badly burned in a fire as a child. A hundred and four minutes. It screened at Sundance in 2019. The film refuses pity and shows Jade not as a victim but as someone who still wants things.
