What Disciples of Shaolin Is About
A penniless young man from the countryside gets taken on at a textile mill in the city, thanks to a kung fu master working there as a supervisor. When the mill's feud with a rival in the next town heats up, the boy becomes its best fighter and rises fast: new clothes, new shoes, a new opinion of himself. Chang Cheh built the 1975 Shaw Brothers picture as a warning and makes him pay for it in the end. Alexander Fu Sheng gives what many count as the best performance of his career. The Chinese title names the Hung fist, and the film has little to do with Shaolin.
