What Diving Into the Unknown Is About
In February 2014 a deep dive in the underwater cave system at Plurdalen in Norway ends in disaster; two Finnish divers die at a depth of a hundred and thirty metres. The Norwegian and British authorities judge a recovery too dangerous and call it off. The friends left behind do not accept that decision and resolve to bring their companions' bodies out themselves. Juan Reina's Finnish documentary follows the covert expedition from the planning stage to the end. The cameras are both at the surface and with the divers. The film does not turn death into spectacle; its real subject is how far a person will risk their own life to keep a promise. Sami Paakkarinen leads the team, and one of the survivors coordinates from above.
