Don

A crime film set in Malaysia and India. Don runs an international drug network. Interpol has been after him for years and nobody knows his face. He is shot during an operation. His death is kept secret. There is another man with the same face. Vijay lives on the street, dances on a stage, and looks after two orphaned children. A police chief brings him an offer. He will take Don's place, get inside the organisation and obtain the ledger. From there the film is a story of imitation. Vijay learns the speech, the walk and the look; inside, there is a risk of recognition at every moment. Then the only witness dies. Nobody is left who knows Vijay's real identity and he can no longer explain himself to the police. What the narrative is interested in is not crime but identity: the whole film rests on a man being in someone else's place and being unable to get out of it. There is a revenge line as well. A woman named Roma has entered the organisation on her own account. Information is given at the end that makes you read the whole narrative backwards; that section is not in the 1978 original and belongs to the adaptation. The source is a film of the same name made in 1978. That production was one of Amitabh Bachchan's best known works, and the remake takes it on knowingly. The music was rearranged; the known songs of the original are used in new arrangements. Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani and Om Puri are in the cast.
